La piña es una planta herbácea perenne con hojas largas en forma de espada, dispuestas en espiral alrededor de un tallo central y una inflorescencia terminal. Las plantas adultas pueden medir entre 0,9 y 1,8 m, tanto de alto como de ancho. Es originaria de América Central, Sudamérica y Caribe. Sus hojas alcanzan una longitud hasta 80-90 centímetros y no tienen espinas, salvo el extremo puntiagudo final de la hoja. La carne de esta piña es de color amarillo claro, con un alto contenido de azúcar y vitamina C. Lo que se combina con un paladar de baja acidez. Los frutos son de forma cilíndrica y pueden alcanzar un peso entre 1,2 y 1,8 Kgr.

The pineapple is a perennial herbaceous plant with long, sword-shaped leaves arranged in a spiral around a central stem and a terminal inflorescence. Adult plants can measure between 0.9 and 1.8 m, both in height and width.  It is native to Central America, South America and the Caribbean.  Its leaves reach  a length of up to 80-90 centimeters and have no thorns, except for the pointed end of the leaf. The flesh of this pineapple is light yellow, with a high sugar and vitamin C content, which is combined with a low acidity palate. The fruits are cylindrical in shape and can weigh between 1.2 and 1.8 kg.
